Introduction to Philosophy: Ethics

What is ethics? What makes an action right or wrong? What responsibilities do we have to ourselves and others when making moral decisions? What does it mean to be a good person? SALA Online’s Introduction to Ethics course addresses these questions and many more through the philosophical tradition of critical thinking and analysis. Reading assignments will familiarize students with crucial moral theories including utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. Writing assignments will focus on the fundamentals of academic writing and strengthen students’ ability to explicate complex philosophical ideas. Ethical case analyses will allow students to apply their understanding of the class material to complicated real world scenarios. During the course, students will gain a deeper understanding of the complexity of ethics and morality, while also developing key critical thinking skills.
