Twentieth Century History: How the World Changed

Ages 13-16

Grade 8-10
The 20th century was a time of great transformation for the whole world, with profound implications. At the beginning of the 20th century, 1.7 billion people lived in fewer than 60 sovereign nations; mostly all living by firelight and cooking with flame; ruled by a handful of empires; and the horse was the most prevalent form of transportation. By the end of the century every one of the old empires was destroyed; over 7 billion people live in almost 200 countries, half of whom are on the internet and drive over a billion cars and trucks. Beginning in the year 1901 we will trace the technological, economic, and cultural forces that helped create the world we live in today.
